I'm baaaaack.....

Wow, I'm a bad blogger, not a post in months. You know it's bad when your brother asks if you've abandoned the blog. Since I'm snowed in today with this crazy blizzard of 2010 it's time to get back into blogging. I'm also done classes for almost a month so that means more free time after school and on weekends to keep up with things!

I haven't abandoned crafts, just the blog. In Aguust or September I crocheted a baby blanket for my new baby cousin Ally.

I of course had to make a tag with wash instructions!

And I also included my favorite baby gift, a tag blanket. They whip up quick after trimming some fleece fabric and pinning the ribbons.

Since I'm snowed in, on vacation, and not motivated to do things I should be doing, today is going to be a crafty day! So I will be sure to share something else soon. I'm big on sewing right now and can't wait to share a project I made for Christmas presents. But first I want to make one for myself! And before that I'm off to visit blogs...haven't done that since at least August, sorry!

Yay, a card!!!

I got right to work on this week's Mojo Monday sketch and was able to make a card. It seems like forever since that's happened!

When I went to make this card all I knew was that I wanted to use my fun two-toned crocheted flower. I found a couple of sites with directions to crochet your own embellisments (here and somewhere else that I can't currently locate!) and I made these using DMC embroidery floss, which I have tons of. It makes the flowers much smaller than yarn as I tried before on this card, and the colors are bold and have endless possibilities. I see many of these in my future! They only took me about five minutes each and I'm sure I'll get the pattern down, and variations to make a few different types.

Thanks for all the sweet comments while I was away, it brightens my day as I struggle through a rainy day with kids who think today is the last day, not FOURTEEN school days from now. Oy, it's going to be a long month. I'll try to post some NYC pics tomorrow, just have to do a bit of organizing first.

ABC blanket

The perfect blanket for a teacher to give as a baby gift:

When my nephew arrived in the world (2 years ago Saturday!) and came home to his Classic Pooh nursery, I made a similar blanket with a Pooh face in the corners. Now he'll have a little brother in July and I wanted it to go with the theme of the room, so this one has a leaf from the 100 Acre Forest....

Once I learned to crochet I loved the ease of it. Quicker than knitting and easier to correct a mistake! Once my mom sent me the link to this pattern, it's all I make when I'm in the mood to craft and watch tv. All you do is SC (single crochet) and PS (puff stitch)--After making the blanket so many times, I rarely refer to the pattern. This is the 7th or 8th time I've made it....maybe more now that I think of it. The pattern is simple to follow, it's soft, kids love the texture aspect, I love the alphabet, and it's MACHINE WASHABLE! Get the pattern here. The finished size is said to be 35" by 42", but my stitches on this one must be extra loose....it's probably 45" by 52". They can cuddle for many years! If Melky lets me give it away....
